Big and small Parents Group

For single parents families to meet every three weeks within the Bournemouth & Poole area

~BIG & Small Parents Group~

Bournemouth

Aims and Objectives

Aim

To provide support for single parents and their child(ren) within the Bournemouth and surrounding areas.

The group is primarily open to any single parent who is the main carer of their child(ren).  At commencement, there would be no upper age limit for child(ren), however, this may need to be reviewed at a later date.

Objectives

     To meet every three weeks

     To participate in activities

►  To provide mutually support and friends

Our research has indicated that there is a shortage of support for single parents living within Bournemouth and its surrounds.  We would like to establish a support group where single parents can socialise with others whilst spending enjoyable time with their child(ren).

Suggested activities and day trips

We would aim to have all of our activities at local, inexpensive venues that are accessible by good transport connections.  Our meet ups will be child friendly and will enable parents to socialise within a relaxed environment while their child(ren) get to meet others growing up in a similar environment.

Suggested trips include: Boscombe Gardens; Adventure Wonderland; Farmer Palmers; a fire station visit; and a trip to an allotment to see how varied produce grows.

Current support

We have approached a few local organisations and they have offered their support by publicising and promoting BIG & small Parents Group.  These include:

Bournemouth Childrens Information Service: Once our website is completed they will add our details onto their database.

Boscombe Childrens Centre: they are willing to consider offering a room for meetings and they are happy to put BIG & small literature in with their welcome packs.

Townsend Childrens Centre: the Centre manager, Naomi Unwin, has discussed sponsoring BIG & small on day trips, depending on the majority of children being five years of age and under.

Springbourne Family Centre: as well as distributing BIG & small flyers, they are happy to let us use the centre, as long as there is a staff member on site.

Bournemouth Library: have put the groups details onto their P.I.E.R database (Public, Information, Electronic, Resources)
